Solidarity on Stage Acacia O'Connor and the Sumud Ensemble Announce New Acting Classes

For the past two years, Sumud Ensemble has been creating theatre, festivals and community events in solidarity with Palestine, bringing together Palestinian, Māori and Tauiwi artists to tell stories, build community and imagine liberation together.

Now, Sumud Ensemble has found a home at Corban Estate Arts Centre in West Auckland and is launching a new Tuesday night acting programme led by actor, director and theatre-maker Acacia O’Connor. Through improvisation, devising and ensemble work, participants will collaborate towards the creation of an original performance piece.

Whether you’re a seasoned performer or have never stepped on stage before, these classes are an opportunity to connect with a vibrant community of artists and activists, deepen your creative practice, and get involved in the movement for Palestinian liberation through theatre.

Acacia O’Connor has spent years teaching young people and adults across Tāmaki Makaurau and has led productions including My Name is Rachel Corrie and Tales of a City by the Sea. Sumud Ensemble believes that art can be a space for resistance, solidarity and collective care.
