Otherwoman

In an industry plagued by convention and tradition, aptly named alt-rap threesome “Otherwoman” aim to rock the boat, turn heads, and provoke pearl-clutching with sex-positive, anti-establishment, existentialist raps, interwoven with earworm choruses and choir-like harmonies, delivered over grungy, guitar-heavy tracks.

The three artists that make up Otherwoman have all found previous success in their solo ventures; but through frequent collaboration, experimentation, and blending of their vastly differing musical disciplines, TAMiii, day13n, and Taimana ultimately unlocked a sound unlike any of their contemporaries; and Otherwoman was born.

The group’s name — which coincidentally shares its definition with the similarly genre-defying, woman-lead band Paramore — was born from common experiences surrounding infidelity, mistrust, a search for belonging, and feelings of being “othered”.

While Otherwoman may consist of three vastly different artists, from wildly diverse upbringings that span the globe from Canada, to South Africa, to Aotearoa, they’re connected by an experience so innately human, so universally shared, that its prevalence in their music is sure to resonate with any, and all who listen: that deep, unshakeable desire to belong.

Cyril Tattoos

Antifascist first. Tattoo artist second.

Erika is a tattoo artist operating under the pseudonym Cyril, based at Bruce Tattoo on Pitt St. in Tāmaki Makaurau.

She specialises in mag-drag tattooing, and has wide versatility across all technical tattooing skills. Erika often creates prints using different practical techniques and is always searching to find new craft skills to add to her repertoire.

Raised with a strong sense of ethics and the courage to question the systems that are built around us. Her connection to humanitarian activism and her Jewish identity has led her to be heavily involved with pro-Palestinian, anti-zionist movements within Aotearoa and dismantling the conflation between Judaism and zionism.

Swizl Jager

Swizl Jager is a reo rua (bilingual) rapper and film maker from Aotearoa, NZ.

In both his music and film work he is heavy on story sovereignty, identity and representation, he's not afraid to turn down work or shows if the values don't align, he's equally not afraid of fighting for what's right. You can usually find him at gigs of all genres (even if he's not on the line up) or mucking in with various social kaupapa.

His live shows have been said to be a mix of hard hitting raps, stand up comedy and a political rally, no 2 shows are the same but each is always something to write home about.

With a background in hardcore and heavy metal his stage presence commands attention, while his crowd control makes the audience feel like they're whanau, or as Swizl likes to say "whaYES".

He carries his māoritanga everywhere he goes but his love for humanity and hapori (community) supercede race, religion and creed.

Akawui

Akawui is a Canadian songwriter -composer-performer of Chilean and Mapuche Indigenous origin.

He was introduced to South American folk music at a very young age by his father. It is through that experience, as well as his Indigenous cultural heritage that his musical blending is inspired.

Performing most often in Spanish, Akawui has found a unique sound in Latin/alternative/urban music. It fuses hip-hop, rock, elements of electronic music as well as folk songs and sounds from around the world.

For urban alternative music lovers of the world, this artist unifies the tribal with the modern. His texts carry a committed message that tells the reality of various communities and highlights the human condition. On stage, Akawui offers a dynamic performance, both powerful and tender.
