Code of Conduct

All participants, facilitators, trustees, artists, venue staff, volunteers, patrons, collaborators, and anyone engaged with or connected to any AFO events, workshops, or online correspondence, are protected by and must adhere to these guidelines. While this document is not legally binding, in the case of breaches of this code, the Artists For Others Board of Trustees reserves the right to take punitive action in whatever manner they see fit, including but not limited to: ejection from events, exclusion from future participation and/or collaborations with Artists For Others, engagement and cooperation in investigations, participation in conflict resolution and acts of restitution, and/or involvement of law enforcement, and legal proceedings when deemed necessary.

The Code Of Conduct includes the following:

  1. Discrimination, Bullying, Harassment, Violence, or Hate Speech will not be tolerated in any AFO events, workshops, or spaces.

  2. Harassment is defined by this Code Of Conduct as including, but not limited to:  unwanted advances, stalking, inappropriate comments or language, non-consensual touching, intimidation, and threats.

  3. Artists For Others pride ourselves on providing a safe space for all people. Every member of the community is an active participant in this, and must ensure the safety and comfortability  of all as an utmost priority.

  4. Artists For Others maintains confidentiality of our participants in all matters brought to our attention, in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020, the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989, and the Family Violence Act 2018.

  5. Conflicts are resolved in a manner that prioritizes safety and comfortability of victims, putting their needs first while also recognizing the overarching institutional causes of abusive behaviours and patterns of abuse. Ultimately aiming for reintegration and reconciliation within the community, but only with the victim’s consent, and only on their timeframe.

  6. It is important that incidences of abuse are reported to AFO staff. It is the responsibility of all AFO staff, volunteers, and trustees to ensure that every person engaging with an AFO event or program feels they have the ability to safely report any incidents they may experience or witness.

  7. Conflict is not necessarily abuse. Community is built on interpersonal relationships, and every interpersonal relationship involves conflict. Incidences of conflict must be treated differently from cases of abuse. It is important that conflicts are reported to AFO staff if mediation is required.

The Artists For Others Board of Trustees reserves the right to add to, or amend this Code Of Conduct at any time, as they see fit.
