Run for Raafat
In March 2027 Ruby Oliver (AFO website editor) is going to be running a half-marathon to raise money for Raafat Rouk (19), his three siblings and his Mother and Father currently struggling to survive the genocidal conditions imposed upon them in Khan Yunis, Gaza. Raafat’s family has been displaced 12 times since October 7th 2023 and have narrowly escaped death numerous times. Upon visiting the ruins of his family’s home Raafat was targeted by artillery shelling and was struck by shrapnel in his left eye and lost consciousness. After regaining consciousness he crawled to the European Gaza Hospital where he was prescribed medicine. This medication is costly and is needed to relieve the suffering caused by the injury. He ultimately needs a corneal transplant to restore vision in his left eye. This is only available outside of Gaza. Passage through the Rafah border crossing into Egypt is costly and hard to access. That is why we are raising money to support the Rouk family’s daily survival, to buy medicine, food and water as well as raising money to give them the chance to leave Gaza to safety. Every day they remain in Gaza is another day filled with the fear of being struck down by bombing or artillery shelling. Leaving Gaza would mean that Raafat has the chance to pursue his dream of becoming an architect and would give the family a chance to start healing from the years of extreme trauma inflicted on them. Give the Rouk family hope and donate today to sponsor Ruby’s run in March.
