Verity and Jujulipps Take Aim At Situationships On New Single ‘Casual’

It’s a tale as old as time. The late night “u up?” texts, the hot and cold, acting like a couple in private, and the whiplash when you’re reminded it’s just “casual”. Verity and Jujulipps’ new single captures the mess and confusion of the nonchalant facade.

“The song is about that frustrating in between space when you’re more than friends but not quite in a relationship and how confusing and hurtful that can be.” Says Verity, speaking to Radio Burgerfuel. “I think it’s a cop-out. It’s like people want all the benefits of a relationship without commitment or loyalty.”

In a male dominated industry, where toxic masculinity and bravado run rampant in studio sessions, Jujulipps and Verity ride or die for the girls on their new track, which brings together two powerful wahine voices to make a powerful stand.

“There was something really special about creating this with another woman.” Verity recalls, “We both understood the emotions behind the song from the same perspective, so there was this unspoken understanding that made the collaboration really authentic.”

Verity originally cooked up ‘Casual’ in a Los Angeles writing session alongside Norwegian producer Magnus Bertelsen and her mentor/manager Vince Harder. Vince then recommended Jujulipps after seeing her perform live, and it was “love at first listen”. As Verity describes it, “As soon as I heard her, I knew she was the perfect person for this track. She brought exactly the energy and attitude the song needed.”
