Enrol! And have fun while you do it!
Passing Through returns this Thursday, August 20th at our new venue with a voter enrolment party organised alongside 350 Aotearoa!
Over 200,000 Rangatahi are still not enrolled to vote as of August 18th, according to stats provided by On a Roll. Rangatahi are the second largest group of eligible voters in Aotearoa, yet in 2023 youth voter turnout sat at just 57% - the lowest of any age group.
If we want queer and trans rights protected, the arts funded, and our voices as rangatahi heard, it is important that we show up to vote.
Same day enrolment no longer exists. Last year the government passed legislation that made it not possible for voters to enrol within the two weeks leading up to election day.
In 2023, 110,000 voters enrolled on election day. Critics of this legislation claim it is an attempt at voter suppression. In response, Christopher Luxon has said his government wants “everyone to participate but it’s just done two weeks before election day.”
The government has not expressed any intention to adjust their new enrolment legislation.
Anyone who enrolls after October 4th, 2026 must submit a “special vote”, and sign a declaration form.
No one may enrol to vote after October 25th, 2026.
Come join us at Passing Through this Thursday to hang out, have fun, and get your enrolment completed!
Free kai, and all the fun and talanoa you expect from a regular Passing Through session, alongside voting information, enrolment resources, and crafts.
Pass Through, connect, share some kai, and enrol to vote this Thursday.
